History of Marmaris

The history of Marmaris extends to BC. The coastline of Marmaris and its surroundings are very indented, there are well-sheltered villages, harbors and protection. Combining the Mediterranean and Aegean seas has made it an important junction point to Asia, Europe and Africa. Even this area has faced invasions of cities far from the coast and seeking to reach the sea. According to some sources, some nomadic tribes settled on the Aegean coast before the Karya, called Finish. Name of Marmaris: The Seljuks rule starts in 1010 and is established on the earth and receives the name MERMERİS. The name MERMERİS went to Italy in World War I (in Latin) was converted to Marble / Marmaris, used extensively and later became official with the Republican period.

The castle of Marmaris was first repaired by İskender, Menteşe Beyi Ibrahim Bey and Ghazi Ahmet, which was built in 304 BC.1522 The law which used the upper part of Marmaris during the conquest of Rhodes, was magnified by Sultan Süleyman and the son was restored in 1980-1990.
The caravanserai was built in 1545 in the name of Süleyman the Magnificent.

Taşhan was made during the time of the Rhodes campaign in the time of the lawful sultan.
